This midterm was by far one of the hardest for me to complete and pretty time consuming. For completing it I carried out the following process. First I selected file and new from the GIMP menu in order to create a blank new image. As a "Create new image" dialog box appeared, I selected "Transparency" from the "fill with" drop menu and clicked ok. A next step was to add the text by adding a text box to the image and inserting some text. I then added a new layer to the image by selecting New Layer from the Layer menu. As a new layer dialog box appeared, I selected the "white" radio bottom under "layer fill type". After that I adjusted the opacity of the white layer so that the layers below it showed through. I then downloaded the Tux image and opened in GIMP and copied the image to the clipboard by selecting edit and copy from the image menu. Next, I added a new layer by selecting layer and new layer, giving the layer the name "Tux" and selecting transparency. After that, I pasted the penguin into this new layer by selecting edit and paste into. I then anchored the penguin image to the layer named "Tux" using the anchor icon in the Layers menu. The next step was to move the Tux layer down in the stacks so that it appears to be behind the text using the down arrow in the layers menu. I then deleted the semi opaque layer using the trash icon on the layer menu. Finally I saved the image as a PNG file and uploaded it to the blog.
